The real talk

Nasi goreng pattaya is just nasi goreng wearing a jacket bro. The fried rice inside is the same 500 calorie business as usual, and then they wrap it in a fried egg omelette which adds fat and another splash of oil from the pan.

The chilli sauce squiggle on top looks innocent but it is mostly sugar. Combine the oily fried rice, the omelette, and the sweet sauce and you are at 700, which is more than the plain nasi goreng you thought you were upgrading from.

Common questions

Is nasi goreng pattaya more fattening than normal nasi goreng?
A bit, yes. The omelette blanket and the extra oil to fry it add roughly 150 to 200 calories over a plain plate. You do get a little more protein from the egg, around 24g, but the calorie cost outweighs it if you are counting.
How many calories is the omelette part alone?
The egg wrap is about 160 calories, mostly from the two eggs and the oil used to fry the thin omelette. It is the main thing separating pattaya from regular fried rice on the calorie sheet.
Can I make nasi goreng pattaya lighter at home?
Yes. Use a non-stick pan with minimal oil for the omelette, load the fried rice with more vegetables and less rice, and skip the sweet sauce. You can bring it down near 450 to 500 with the same look and feel.
