This is the dish that looks like a salad and eats like a dessert. A pile of blanched kangkung, tauge, kacang panjang and daun pepaya, 120g of it, is about 40 calories. Then the stall pours 50g of sambal pecel on top and that is 170 calories, because peanut sauce is peanuts, palm sugar and oil. The sauce is more than four times the vegetables.
Peyek is the other thing. It is a thin rice-flour cracker fried with peanuts or tiny anchovies, and one piece around 12g is about 50 calories. Two come with the plate, but they are 500 rupiah each and people take five. Five peyek is 250 calories of cracker, more than the rice.
The rice itself is the normal 180g scoop at a pecel stall, about 235 calories. Some places serve it on a pincuk (folded banana leaf) which naturally holds less, and that is the version you want. Full plate service tends to be 250g of rice.
Protein is low at 16g for 550 calories, and that is a problem for staying full. The common fix at the warung is adding telur ceplok (fried egg, about 110 calories) or tempe goreng, and that is a better use of the extra calories than more peyek.
