How Many Calories in Soya (Soy Milk)?

Your classic hawker soy milk drink, anywhere from 85 calories kosong to 150 calories with cincau, depending on how much sugar makes it into your cup.

130kcal / 1 cup (sweetened, typical hawker order)
A standard hawker cup of sweetened soya (250ml) comes in at 130 calories. That's for the typical manis order you get at most mamak stalls or drink carts, where they add sugar syrup on top of the soy milk base. Order it kosong and you drop to about 85 calories. Add cincau for that classic "Michael Jackson" combo and you're looking at around 150 calories for the slightly bigger 300ml serve.

The real talk

Soya is genuinely one of the better drink options at the mamak, bro. At 130 calories for the standard sweetened cup, it is not bad at all. And unlike teh tarik which can hit around 130 to 160 calories and gives you basically zero nutrition, soya actually has 8g of protein per cup. That is real. The only thing bumping up the calories is the sugar syrup, which accounts for about 35 of those 130 calories. The soy milk base itself is sitting at 90 calories and doing all the nutritional work.

What actually changes the maths here is simple: sugar in or out. Kosong brings you down to 85 kcal, manis is 130 kcal, and the cincau version creeps up to 150 kcal partly because of the extra syrup and the slightly bigger 300ml serve. The soy base does not change much between stalls, but the amount of syrup the uncle pours in can vary a lot. Some places are heavy-handed with it. If you are having soya twice a day thinking it is health food but you are getting the sweetened version both times, that is 260 calories just from drinks before you even look at your food. Order kosong or siu tit lah, simple.

Common questions

How many calories in Soya (Soy Milk)?
A 250ml cup of sweetened hawker soya has 130 calories. Order it kosong (no sugar) and it drops to about 85 calories. The soya cincau (Michael Jackson) version with grass jelly comes in at around 150 calories for a slightly larger 300ml serve.
Is soya milk a good drink choice when you're trying to lose weight?
Honestly, yes, especially compared to teh tarik or Milo ais. At 85 to 130 calories per cup, it gives you 8g of protein, which is decent for a drink. The kosong version is particularly solid because you get real satiety from the protein without the sugar hit.
What is the difference between soya kosong and soya manis calories?
About 45 calories. Kosong is roughly 85 kcal per 250ml, while the sweetened version is around 130 kcal. That 45-calorie gap is almost entirely from the sugar syrup. If you drink soya every day, switching to kosong saves you over 300 calories a week without giving up anything.
