The broth looks oily because of the turmeric and fried shallot oil floating on top, but it is lighter than it looks. 250ml of soto broth is around 60 calories. The yellow noodles are the real weight at 230 calories for 180g. Shredded chicken adds 80, bean sprouts 8, sambal kicap 25 and shallots 20. Without the begedil you are at about 370, which is a good number for a bowl that big.
Then the begedil goes in. One fried potato patty is about 60 to 95 calories depending on the size and how much oil it took on, and most stalls give you one by default. That is the difference between 370 and 433. Two begedil and you are close to 500. The same stall usually sells lontong at 798, so mee soto is the light option on that menu by a long way.
Watch the sambal kicap. It tastes like it should be free because it is mostly chilli and sweet soy, but sweet soy is sugar. Two spoons is about 50 calories. Stir in one spoon, taste, and stop there. The broth already has enough going on.
